Introducing AXIS — An Automatic Watch That Reveals Its Inner Structure

I’m Ishida, owner of I.TARU, a Japanese automatic watch brand established in 2022.

As mentioned briefly in last week’s newsletter, we will be launching our new collections “AXIS” and “AXIS LIGHT” at the end of June.

Over the coming weeks, I would like to introduce the AXIS series in more detail.

The concept behind AXIS is:

“Expose the Core.”

This model is based on our now-discontinued I.TARU CLASSIC GAUGE,

reimagined with the premium MIYOTA 90S5 automatic movement.

The case diameter remains at 38mm, while the thickness has been reduced to 8.9mm—1.6mm thinner than the CLASSIC GAUGE—allowing it to fit smoothly under a shirt cuff.

A key feature of AXIS is the fusion of a yellow gold PVD-coated case with a skeleton design.

While evoking the presence of a solid gold watch, it openly showcases the beauty of the internal movement.

The gold-toned components feature subtle mechanical patterns that shift with light,

creating depth and elegance rather than mere flashiness.

To maintain balance, we paired the watch with a matte black leather strap, including stitching, ensuring it remains suitable for professional settings.

In Japan, solid gold watches are rarely worn during daily commutes,

yet they occasionally appear in important presentations or business meetings.

That is precisely why we sought to create a “gold-style watch” suitable for everyday use.

As gold prices continue to rise, solid gold watches are becoming less accessible.

Meanwhile, PVD coating—now adopted even by high-end brands—has evolved beyond its past perception as a “cheap alternative.”

AXIS is a watch designed with one purpose in mind:

to leave a strong, positive impression.

This model is produced in collaboration with the Japanese watch company RENAUTUS.

Due to its dimensions, this model is primarily intended for men.

While women with a wrist size above 15.5cm may wear it, the 47mm lug-to-lug length may make the standard strap less suitable.

In such cases, we recommend switching to a Perlon strap or considering the upcoming AXIS LIGHT model.
